Electronic document and records management (EDRM) – project and change management

The Competition Commission is an independent public body established by the Competition Act 1998. It replaced the Monopolies and Mergers Commission on 1 April 1999. The Commission conducts in-depth inquiries into mergers, markets and the regulation of the major regulated industries. The Commission is based in London and consists of around 50 remote working part-time members supported by 150 full time staff.

Business need

For the Commission to comply with government guidelines, including electronic records management, the Data Protection Act and the Freedom of Information Act, they needed to standardise methods of working to provide consistent recording of electronic data and records in a secure and robust fashion.

Business benefits included information security, electronic distribution of case papers and more effective working practices.

Solution
