Bramble.cc at the Records Management Society
The sixth meeting of the “RMS Ireland” regional group was held in the National Library of Ireland, Dublin, on 14th November 2008.
The event, co-sponsored by Bramble.cc, featured an number of interesting presentations and discussion forums, including a:
- review of file plans and retention schedules, by Magali Briquet of the Irish Department of Education and Science
- presentation on the role of functional analysis in the integration of documents and data, by Olliver Robinson of Transport for London, a former Bramble.cc client
- guide, by Peter Kibby of Bramble.cc, to the challenge presented by Microsoft SharePoint and the opportunities that lie ahead for those who focus on the management of information rather than the management of technology
Picking up on both Magali’s and Olliver’s focus on function as the framework for aggregating information, Peter showed how the concept of complementary attributes for information type and subject allow file plans to be simplified and retrieval improved.
Two of his slides, reproduced below, show the ‘triangulation’ effect that this approach has to finding information, and an example in housing from an information architecture recently developed for a London Borough.
