Information audit

Stacks of paper

For an organisation to manage information successfully, it has to know the size of the beast. Knowing how much information is out there, who uses and accesses it, how it is used and shared, are all key factors when trying to implement information management solutions.

Bramble.cc can tackle some of the most challenging questions – and provide answers – through an in-depth information audit.

We can test hypotheses about specific information resources, services or processes, so that they can be improved through an understanding of their strengths and weaknesses. Our unique toolsets can identify the flows and characteristics of information within an organization to reveal what an automated system might change or improve.

Quantitative and qualitative surveys

As part of the process we interview key personnel to build up a qualitative view of information, and also produce targeted surveys for a sample of the organisation’s staff to produce quantitative evidence.

From this activity we can develop tables of information types and their usage, and maps of the information flows – precursors to the metadata and security models required in EDRM, CMS and synchronous collaborative working tools.

The information audit not only sheds light on what is expected of information systems, but also on the actual information required. And it asks one crucial question: how can the quality of the information be increased to enable staff to do their jobs better?

Increasing impact

Increasing this impact is at the heart of our information strategy. The output from the information audit provides a baseline against which future changes in both technology and business practice can be measured and, therefore, improvements managed and strategy monitored.

The Bramble.cc approach brings together technical and business development priorities, aligns them and ensures that investment can be monitored and managed.
